Reconstruction:Proto-Uralic/ade-
Appearance
Proto-Uralic
[edit]Notes
[edit]Often reconstructed, on the basis of the Sami and Mordvinic evidence, as *oda-. Aikio (2013) has argued that the reconstruction *ade- better accounts for the Ugric descendants, and that a regular sound change *a-e > *o-a has taken place in the former two.
Verb
[edit]*ade-
- to sleep
Derived terms
[edit]- *adema (“sleep, dream”)
Descendants
[edit]- Ugric:
- Hungarian: alszik
- Mansi:
- Eastern Mansi: ололантымъ (ololantymʺ)
- Khanty:
- Proto-Mordvinic: *udəms
- Proto-Samic: *oaδētēk (see there for further descendants)
