[edit]The reason of semantical change in most of Turkic languages from "hard" to "steel" is probably to indicate the hardness of steel.
Etymology
[edit]Nugteren compares the word to Proto-Mongolic *kurca (“sharp”), whence also Mongolian хурц (xurc, “sharp”).
