Etymology

Derived from *sila- (to roast on a spit, put on a spit) +‎ *-pūn. The deriving stem *sila- has been compared to Turkic and Mongolic. [1] Compare Proto-Turkic *sīĺ (tooth; sharp stick) and Proto-Mongolic *sidün (tooth).
