[edit]Has been compared to Proto-Mongolic *laka (“sheathfish”) and Proto-Japonic *nakatay (“a kind of fish; eel”).
However; Doerfer rejects the Mongolic cognate and considers it as a loanword from Tungusic, because native Mongolic words don't allow initial *l-. [1]
