Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *tauˀkás, from Proto-Indo-European *towh₂-k-os or *towkos. Cognate with Lithuanian táukas (“tummy, abdomen”) (3rd stress pattern), Latvian tàuks (“fatty”), Old Prussian taukis (“lard”) and possibly related to Proto-Germanic *þeuhą (“thigh”).
