[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *suk-é-ti, from *sewk-. Cognate with Lithuanian sùkti (“to twist”), Proto-Germanic *swanhaną (“to swing”) (whence English sway, Dutch zwaaien (“to sway, wave”)).[1]
