Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/kъtyrь
Appearance
Proto-Slavic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. Probably a derivative in *-yrь (“agentive suffix”) with unclear root.
Trubachev (ESSJa) compares it with Upper Sorbian kuntwora (“mosquito”), Lower Sorbian kuntwor (“mosquito”), possibly reflecting pre-Sorbian *kǫ- + *tvorъ (“creature”).
