Etymology

From pre-Proto-Slavic *kľupsent, equivalent to *kľusъ (trot, gait) +‎ *-ę, from Proto-Indo-European *klewp-. Probably akin to Lithuanian klaũptis (to kneel down), klùpti (to trip, to stumble) and possibly further related to Proto-Germanic *hlaupaną (to leap) (from Proto-Indo-European *klewb-).
