Perhaps from Proto-Balto-Slavic *druˀnas, from Proto-Indo-European *drew- (“tree”). Cognate with Sanskrit द्रुणा (druṇā, “bow”), Persian درونه (daruna, “arc, rainbow, bow”), Ossetian ӕрдын (ærdyn), ӕрдунӕ (ærdunæ), андурӕ (anduræ, “bow (weapon)”).
