The reconstruction *kəčå is also possible, in the absense of Central and Southern Selkup descendants.

Etymology

Unclear. Earlier often taken as a reflex of Proto-Uralic *künče (nail), but the sound correspondences are mostly irregular (the words only share *k- and possibly *-č-).
