Borrowed from either Proto-Norse [script needed] (*bultō-) (whence Faroese bólta (to turn over, tumble, upset, overturn, roll down)), or Proto-Norse [script needed] (*bultja-) (whence Icelandic bylta (to throw to the ground, overturn, overthrow)).[1]
