[edit]Related to Proto-Finnic *üdin (Finnish ydin); from Proto-Finno-Ugric *wideme. Cognates include Erzya удем (uďem, “brain; intellect”), Eastern Mari вем (vem, “marrow”) and Hungarian velő (“marrow”).
