Seasons of the year
Previous: *tɔ̇l
Next: *gɔžäm

Etymology

[edit]

Often proposed to be from Proto-Uralic *towke, in which case related to Proto-Finnic *touko. This in uncertain, as the outcome is quite irregular. The irregularities can be explained as analogy to an unrelated verb *tunu̇ (to flow over) (whence Komi-Zyrian туны (tuny)), and the derived verb **tulinu̇ (whence Komi-Zyrian тулыны (tulyny)). Alternatively, according to Aikio, from Proto-Finno-Permic *tulwa (spring, flood) (whence Proto-Finnic *tulva).[1]
