Proto-Muskogean
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]Noun
[edit]*lok¢iCₐa[1]
Reconstruction notes
[edit]- There exists no (other) reconstruction with root-initial *ilo, which leads Booker to suggest that this term could be reconstructed as *ilok¢iCa. This could explain Hitchiti and Mikasuki word-initial *y, through weakening of *ilo to *iyo.
Descendants
[edit]- Chickasaw: loksiꞌ, luksi
- Mobilian: loksi
- Choctaw: luksi, loksi (modern)
- Creek: locv
- Hitchiti: yokči
- Mikasuki: yokči
