Etymology

From Proto-Uralic *ükte. According to Keresztes, via *viktə > *viɣtǝ > *vejťkǝ. Serebrennikov, for his part, suggests a derivation from Early Proto-Mordvinic *vej, suffixed with *-kə (diminutive suffix).
