[edit]Keresztes (1986: 45) proposes earlier *joŋgəks by comparison with Moksha [script needed] (joŋga) in dialectal [script needed] (aťamjoŋga, “rainbow”) (compare usual атямъёнкс (aťamjonks)), but also accepts the usual derivation from Proto-Uralic.
Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Uralic *joŋse, cognate with Proto-Finnic *jousi, Proto-Samic *juoksë, Proto-Samoyedic *jïntə.
