Proto-Mongolic
[edit]Reconstruction
[edit]Highly problematic, Nugteren separates *kuxu- from *kuxuraï as *koa- and *kuuraï. However, East Yugur and Daur show the same vowel in both words and evidence for *o is ambiguous.
The other difficulty is that the proposed Turkic cognate has no *-g- nor *-p- that usually correspond to Mongolic long vowels, perhaps the original root is *ku- with monosyllabic lengthening which was later introduced to all forms
Etymology
[edit]Most likely related to Proto-Turkic *kurï- (“to dry”), see Turkish kuru.
Verb
