Proto-Austroasiatic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]- Proto-Austroasiatic: *muəj ~ *moːjʔ (Sidwell, 2024, #AA049)
- Proto-Mon-Khmer: *muuj ~ *muəj (Shorto, 2006, #1495.A, B)
- Proto-Mon-Khmer: *muuɲ (Shorto, 2006, #1495.C)
Proto-Aslian has alternate nasal onset. Vietic and Mang have stop codas that don't match with the rest. The Khasian lemmas (if indeed a reflex of this root) shows the lost of initial *m-.
