Proto-Kartvelian

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

*c̣₁el-

  1. intestine, gut

Reconstruction notes

[edit]

In Svan the root is reduplicated; its original vocalism is preserved in the verb ლი-ჭა̈ნჭ-ო̄რ-ე (li-č̣änč̣-ōr-e, disembowel, gut).

Note that Laz ჭინჭვალა (ç̌inç̌vala), ჭინჭყვალა (ç̌inç̌qvala) is likely unrelated to this root.
