Proto-Indo-Iranian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Unknown; perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₂endʰ-ó-s, from *h₂endʰ- +‎ *-ós. Possible cognate with Latin andābata, andobatta (gladiator fighting in a helmet without openings), presumably from Gaulish *andos, *andā (blind) + *batā (fighter).[1]. Or, possibly, from the BMAC substrate.

Adjective

[edit]

*(H)andʰás[1][2][3]

  1. blind
