[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₂éǵros (“(arable) field, pasturage, open land”). Cognate with Sanskrit अज्र (ájra), Proto-Iranian *Hájrah, Proto-Italic *agros, and Proto-Germanic *akraz.[1]
