Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/stubbaz
Appearance
Proto-Germanic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From an earlier n-stem *stubbô ~ *stubbaz, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tewp-, *(s)tewb⁽ʰ⁾- (“to push; knock; butt”), but the reason for the voiced coda is uncertain. Compare Ancient Greek στύπος (stúpos, “stump”).
