Cognate with Latin calvor (“deceive, plot against”), calumnia (“false accusation, deceit, defamation”), Russian хвала́ (xvalá, “praise, laud”), Ancient Greek κηλέω (kēléō, “to charm, bewitch, beguile, appease”).
