Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *gʰlewH- (“clear, sharp”); cognate with Old Irish gluair (“clear, clean”) and perhaps *glūnēn- (“to peer”), whence dialectal Swedish gluna (“to stare, peer”) and Latvian glũnêt (“to lour”).[1]
