Proto-Germanic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *bʰrews- (breast; to swell), which appears to be separate from *bʰrews- in the "break, burst" sense. Related to *brusts (breast, chest) as well as to the verb *brustijaną (to sprout). Cognate with Proto-Celtic *brusū (belly; breast), Proto-Slavic *břȗxo (belly),[1] as well as perhaps Proto-Slavic *brъstь (bud), Albanian brushtull (ivy) (< Proto-Albanian *brustula). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
