Proto-Finnic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Unclear. Occasionally compared with Eastern Mansi [script needed] (ajəw-), but this is highly dubious for phonetic reasons. The similarity to *uni is striking, but there is no regular derivational process that could explain *uni (*une-) → *uinu-.

Verb

[edit]

*uinudak (stem *uinu-)[1]

  1. to fall asleep
  2. to sleep
