Proto-Finnic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown.

[edit]*taltë-
Reconstruction notes
[edit]Reconstruction as a noun is theoretical; only adverbs from inflected forms are found in descendants, especially the adessive singular (*taldëlla, meaning "in storage, safe"). While some Finnish dictionaries purport to have the basic noun, they are likely later back-formations.
Descendants
[edit]- ⇒ Estonian: tallel
- ⇒ Finnish: tallella, tallessa, tallettaa, (dialectal, archaic) talteva
- → Karelian: (South Karelian) tallella
- ⇒ Ingrian: tallel
