Etymology

Cognate with Proto-Samic [Term?] (whence Southern Sami giltedh), probably ultimately of sound-symbolic origin.

Alternatively possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *glītaną [1] (although such a verb is only attested in West Germanic languages).
