Etymology

From earlier *käppä, possibly borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (whence Latvian kaps, Lithuanian kapas) or, alternatively, possibly from Proto-Finno-Ugric *käppä (whence Eastern Mansi [script needed] (käp), Northern Mansi [script needed] (kap, hill)).
