Etymology

From *imeh (wonder) +‎ *-tä- +‎ *-(e)ldäk. The intermediate derivative *imehtädäk does not appear to be attested, although Karelian imehtie (to wonder, to be happy) and Ludian imehtuda (to be delighted) suggest parallel derivatives *imeh-t-i-, *imeh-t-u-.
