Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/-mak
Appearance
Proto-Finnic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Uralic *-ma[t/k], *-na[t/k].
Suffix
[edit]*-mak
- The first-person plural possessive ending.
Usage notes
[edit]- This was the form used in the nominative singular. The oblique form *-nak (<? *-n-mak, with initial *-n re-extracted from other inflectional suffixes, such as the genitive *-n) was used with all other cases and numbers.[1]
- The possessive suffix follows the case suffix.
- Largely replaced by the second-person plural *-tak, *-ndak in descendants.
- The final vowel was probably originally *-a/*-ä, and influenced in many descendants by the first-person plural personal pronoun *mek/*möö.[1]
