Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/-k-
Appearance
Proto-Finnic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Possibly from Proto-Uralic *-k.
Morpheme
[edit]*-k-
- ? Present tense, indicative mood marker.
Reconstruction notes
[edit]This marker has no direct evidence.
It is usually reconstructed to allow to explain the gemination of the first-person and second-person plural personal verb endings *-ma and *-ta to *-mmV and *-ttV in descendants, supposing their earlier forms to have been *-k-mV and *-k-tV.[1]
No remnants of this marker can be seen with other personal endings, except perhaps with the reflexive suffix *-sën (*-k-sën).
