Reconstruction notes
[edit]Matasović seems to be under the impression that Welsh gwyledd m, due to its masculine gender, may have come from a masculine/neuter counterpart *weiliyo-. This is impossible; the ending -edd can only have come from *-iyā (*-iyo- would have yielded **-ydd). The Welsh word can only have gained masculine gender from a secondary gender switch.
