Proto-Celtic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Unknown; possibly a substrate word.[1]

Noun

[edit]

*minaweto- gender unattested[2][3]

  1. awl

Reconstruction notes

[edit]
  • Matasović's reconstruction *menādo- is incorrect, as the Brittonic words have three syllables, not the disyllables that his reconstruction predicts. Additionally, the Brittonic words end in reflexes of lenited *t > *d, not *d > .
  • The gender of this word could be masculine or neuter; it is only attested in languages that lost the neuter.
