Proto-Celtic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown; possibly a substrate word.[1]
Noun
[edit]*minaweto- gender unattested[2][3]
Reconstruction notes
[edit]- Matasović's reconstruction *menādo- is incorrect, as the Brittonic words have three syllables, not the disyllables that his reconstruction predicts. Additionally, the Brittonic words end in reflexes of lenited *t > *d, not *d > *ð.
- The gender of this word could be masculine or neuter; it is only attested in languages that lost the neuter.
