Reconstruction notes

[edit]

The neuter gender for Old Irish lúasc is not directly attested and is marked as only a possibility in DIL. It may be deduced from the word's odd declension in Middle Irish where the word does not have final palatalized consonants in the accusative/dative singular (unlike most feminine ā-stems) but has a plural lúasca. The primary nouns with such a declension in early Irish would be the neuters.
