Etymology

Uncertain. Pokorny constructs a Proto-Indo-European *kan-tho- and compares *kh₂em- (to bend).[1] Compare Proto-Slavic *kǫtъ (corner). Less certain is a relation with Ancient Greek κανθός (kanthós, corner of the eye).[2]
