Proto-Celtic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Sometimes said to be from *knyo-, from Proto-Indo-European *kn̥-i-, from *ken- (“to begin, arise”),[1] but this leaves a wide semantic gap. It could instead be from a non-Indo-European substrate language.
