[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *pékʷeti, a thematic present from *pekʷ- (“to cook”). This verb contains an assimilation of *p-kʷ to *kʷ-kʷ followed by a sporadic vowel rounding of *e to o when surrounded by two labiovelars.
