Matasović relates this to *gloiwos (whence Welsh gloyw) and what he reconstructs as *gleiwis (whence Old Irish glé).[1]

Reconstruction notes

  • Matasović's *gloistos is an obvious mistake; the vowel correspondences in Irish and Welsh point to *ei, not *oi.
