Proto-Celtic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Unknown, with many speculative ideas floating around. Lucht is ready to fall back on supposing a potential substrate borrowing if no other option proves worthy. See Lucht 2007 (p. 137) for discussion.[1] Delamarre's comparison to Ancient Greek δεῖπνον (deîpnon)[2] does not work due to mismatched first vowels.

Noun

[edit]

*dekʷro- gender unattested

  1. food

Descendants

[edit]
  • Proto-Brythonic: *debr
  • Gaulish: Deprosagiios (literally food-seeker)
