Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/dekʷro-
Appearance
Proto-Celtic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown, with many speculative ideas floating around. Lucht is ready to fall back on supposing a potential substrate borrowing if no other option proves worthy. See Lucht 2007 (p. 137) for discussion.[1] Delamarre's comparison to Ancient Greek δεῖπνον (deîpnon)[2] does not work due to mismatched first vowels.
Noun
[edit]*dekʷro- gender unattested
Descendants
[edit]- Proto-Brythonic: *debr
- ⇒ Gaulish: Deprosagiios (literally “food-seeker”)
