Proto-Berber
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Afroasiatic *maʔ-. Within Pan-Berber, compare Guanche aemon, ahemon. Sometimes compared to Old Nubian ⲁⲙⲁⲛ- (aman-), but the resemblance is likely a coincidence given the otherwise complete lack of evidence for ancient Berber-Nubian contact.
