[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₃ew-[1], cognate with Latin *uo.
Alternatively reconstructed as *h₂ewH- by LIV, but (as pointed out by Dersen) root-final laryngeal is incompatible with the Balto-Slavic accentuation.
