Etymology

From earlier *džedíja, from *gʷedija, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷoh₁dʰ(y)os, in which a glide *-y- could partially explain the presence of the same glide in Early Proto-Albanian as in *wīja < *weh₁yos (“twisted”). Compare Dutch kwaad (“angry, evil”), Serbo-Croatian gȁd (“loathing, nausea”).
