[edit]Unknown. Turner compares to Nepali चोयो (coyo, “split cane for making nets”), Sindhi [script needed] (coī, “framework with nets attached for catching fish”). Compare also Sanskrit चीर (cīra, “strip of bark, cloth”), Prakrit *𑀘𑀯 (*cava, “point or blade of plough”) (> Hindi चौ (cau)).
