[edit]From *dhn̥gwā-, a metathesised form of (Pre-)Proto-Italic *dn̥ghwā- (the latter whence Proto-Italic *denɣwā),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *dn̥ǵʰwéh₂s. Cognate with Latin lingua.
