[edit]From *r̥štiš (“spear, sword”), from Proto-Iranian *Hr̥štíš, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥štíš (whence ऋष्टि (ṛṣṭi)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁r̥s-tí-s, from *h₁ers- (“to thrust”) + *-tis, + *vaigah (“onslaught, siege”), from Proto-Iranian *wáygah (whence Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬉𐬖𐬀 (vaēγa)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wáygah (“violent motion”) (whence Sanskrit वेग (véga)).[1][2]
