Luwian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain, but probably inherited. Possibly related to Ancient Greek แผฮผฮฑฯ ฯฯฯ (amaurรณs, โdarkโ), Latin umbra (โshadow, shadeโ). However, Kloekhorst connect this and related Hittite words to Proto-Indo-European *mergสท- (โto flicker; to darkenโ). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
Noun
[edit]*๐ ๐ ๐ฟ๐ป (*ma-ar-wa-tar /marwatar/) (nominative-accusative singular)
Usage notes
[edit]- Only the dative-locative singular is attested.
Inflection
[edit]- (dative/locative singular): ๐ ๐ ๐ฟ๐ซ๐ (ma-ar-wa-ta-ni)
