[edit]Originally plural of now obsolete Randal m (“noise, tumult”), humorous pseudo-Latin formation from dialectal Rand (“noise, ballyhoo”), to rhyme with Skandal (“scandal”), perhaps also Vandal(e) (“vandal”).
