Livonian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Dzintra Hirša suggests that Latvian Ruoja could be related to Livonian ruoi (grass).[1]

LĒL only lists āina for the meanings "hay, grass, medicine," however, compare Estonian rohi. The 19th century LDW, however, lists ruoi as "grass."
