[edit]From Old High German reht, from Proto-Germanic *rehtaz (“right, straight”), (an adjective also used substantively as a noun), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃reǵtós. Cognate with German Recht Dutch recht, English right, Danish ret, Swedish rätt.
